Key facts before you start

Florida slab-on-grade is the #1 LVP failure point — test it, never eyeball it: LifeProof requires 'New concrete slab must cure for at least 90 days' and that EVERY slab be moisture-tested because 'Visual checks are not reliable.' Pass one of: calcium chloride under 8 lb/1,000 sq ft/24 hr (ASTM F1869), in-situ RH 85% max (ASTM F2170), or 4% max on a Tramex meter — minimum 3 tests per 1,000 sq ft. Two DIFFERENT poly sheets get confused here: a new slab 'must have a minimum 10 mil polyethylene sheet between the ground and the concrete' (under the slab — you cannot add it later, so ask the builder before you buy flooring), while the barrier you lay OVER a slab or crawl space is 'A plastic film with a minimum thickness of 6 mil... placed with a 4 – 6 in. overlapped seam, and taped with a suitable tape.' Keep the AC running the entire job: LifeProof states 'The HVAC system must be on and functional before, during, and after installation' and flatly bars installs in 'non-temperature controlled rooms or homes.' Hold the room at 50-100°F and 35-85% RH continuously in Orlando's humidity — rigid-core needs no acclimation, but a floor laid in an unconditioned house or on an open lanai/sunroom will expand and gap once the AC cycles or the wet season arrives. Flatten and prep the slab before a single plank: min 3,000 psi concrete, flat to 1/4 in. in a 10 ft. span with no slope over 1 in. per 6 ft (Shaw and COREtec spec it tighter — 3/16 in. in 10 ft or 1/8 in. in 6 ft) — grind high spots, fill lows with floor patch, because the click-lock telegraphs every bump. Stagger end joints a minimum of 8 in. and keep no plank, including the first and last in each row, shorter than 8 in. Leave a 1/4 in. expansion gap around the ENTIRE perimeter and against every vertical obstruction — walls, door casings, pipes, island bases — and grow it to 1/2 in. once a continuous floating area tops 2,500 sq ft (Shaw and COREtec). It floats, so set cabinets, islands, tubs and vanities FIRST and run planks around them: 'Do not place permanently mounted structures such as kitchen counters/cabinets on the installed floor.' Break up long runs or the floor peaks and buckles: LifeProof requires a transition T-molding at any doorway or archway under 4 ft wide, on any floating room over 1,500 sq ft, and on floors spanning more than 30 ft wide and 50 ft long — routine in Florida open-concept great-rooms. Undercut wood door jambs so planks slide underneath freely instead of being pinched, and never run this product outside its listing: LifeProof bars 'all exterior installations, seasonal porches... sunrooms, solariums' — a covered lanai is not an approved location. Permit/scope: floating LVP over a slab is cosmetic floor-covering (finish work), so a same-footprint install normally needs no separate building permit in unincorporated Orange County or the City of Orlando — but the two are different permit offices, so confirm yours before a whole-house job (permits-fl.ts classifies flooring as no-permit cosmetic work under FBC 105.2). 'No permit' never means 'no code': FBC 105.2 says exemptions 'shall not be deemed to grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of this code,' so the moisture-test, cure, and clearance specs above still govern the job.
