The short version

DIYrr helps you diagnose home repairs. To do that, the repair description and photos you submit are analyzed by an AI service. We don't sell your personal data — to anyone, ever.

What we collect and why

• Repair descriptions and photos you submit. These are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate your repair plan. Anthropic may retain your submission briefly for abuse and safety monitoring, and does not use it to train AI models. We store your descriptions, the plans we generate, and any follow-up answers you give, so the app works and so we can see which repairs people need help with. We also keep a copy of common text-only questions (without your device identifier) so repeat questions get answered faster. Photos are not stored on our servers after analysis.
• Contact details you choose to share (name, phone, email, ZIP) — only when you tap "Get a pro." They are emailed, together with your repair details and any note you write, to the specific local contractor shown to you, so they can contact you about your repair; the contractor can reply to you directly. We do not store the name, phone, or email you give a contractor on our servers. We do keep an internal record of the referral itself (which contractor, the trade, and the ZIP code) so we can confirm the handoff happened.
• An email address, if you ask us to email you your plan — and a ZIP code if you choose to type one into the optional ZIP field. We use the address to send that plan, and we keep it with your consent choice. We also send ourselves an internal copy of the request (your email, the description you typed, photo count, ZIP if given, and your device identifier) so we can understand demand and follow up on problems. We only send you DIY tips or other marketing if you checked the optional box — otherwise the plan email is the only email you get. Unsubscribe or request deletion anytime at the address below.
• In-app activity. We record a small set of actions inside the app — for example, submitting a request (and how many photos were attached), receiving a plan, opening the shopping list, tapping "Get a pro," arriving from or opening a repair guide, and a thumbs up/down on a plan. These are stored with the random device identifier and the related request — not your name or contact details — and used to improve DIYrr.
• Plans you choose to share. If you tap "Share," we create a public link to a read-only page showing the plan (the repair, difficulty, tools, materials, steps, permit and safety notes) — never your description, photos, or device identifier. Anyone with the link can view it; it is not listed in search engines. Ask us to remove a link anytime at the address below.
• Materials pricing lookups. Item names and your ZIP code are used to fetch current retail prices from major home-improvement retailers.
• A random device identifier. Created by the app and saved in your browser's local storage (on the web) or app storage (on a phone). It is not a cookie and is not used for advertising. It enforces fair daily usage limits and links your requests, plans, and in-app activity together. It is not linked to your name or contact details — except that if you ask us to email you your plan, that request is stored with your email address and device identifier.
• Website analytics. Our website and web app use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which collect cookieless, aggregated metrics — pages viewed, referring site, country, device and browser type, and page-load performance. When you arrive through a link we publish (for example the button on our Facebook Page), we also note which channel it was — "facebook" or "instagram" — alongside your in-app activity, so we can tell which channels are useful. We use no advertising trackers of any kind.
• Server logs. We don't store your IP address in our database. Our hosting providers may record IP addresses in standard server logs for security and operations.

How long we keep it

We keep your descriptions, in-app activity, device identifier, and plan-email records for 12 months from your last activity, then delete them automatically. For older requests we keep only the non-personal parts — the repair type and plan, any safety flag, and referral records (which contractor, the trade, and the ZIP code) — with your description and device identifier removed. If you opted in to DIY tips, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time (see "Your choices & deletion" below).

What we don't do

• We never sell your personal data.
• We don't share your photos or repair details with insurers, data brokers, or advertisers.
• We don't require an account, and we don't collect data we don't need.

Service providers we rely on

We rely on established, reputable providers for AI analysis (Anthropic), website hosting and analytics (Vercel), secure data storage, application hosting, retail price data, and transactional email delivery (pro requests and, if you request one, your plan email). Each receives only what's needed for its specific function, under its own privacy and security commitments, and none may sell or use your information for advertising.

Children's privacy

DIYrr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Important reminders

DIYrr provides general informational guidance, not professional advice. AI-generated plans can be inaccurate. Always consult a licensed professional for electrical, gas, plumbing, and structural work, and confirm permit requirements with your local building department.

Your choices & deletion

To request deletion of data associated with your device, your plan emails, or pro requests, email andrew@karhancompanies.com and we'll take care of it. You can decline AI processing at any time by simply not submitting a request.

Changes

If this policy materially changes, we'll update the date above and note it in the app.
