Key facts before you start

Filter: replace every 6 months, then FLUSH 1-4 gal through the dispenser (everydrop Filter A = 1 gal; most others = 4 gal) in 5-sec on/off bursts; skipping the flush causes sputtering, hollow/small cubes, and cloudy water from carbon fines (Whirlpool).
Temp spec, not just 'cold': set freezer to 0 F. GE icemakers won't start a cycle until the mold hits 16 F; LG requires freezer below 19 F and recommends -4 F for ice production. A freezer at 10 F+ means slow/no ice with nothing 'broken'.
Before any repair, check the bail/feeler arm or paddle moves freely — ice clumps jamming it silently stop production; GE also says keep the freezer ~3/4 full so temps stay stable enough for ice.
